What is the step-by-step procedure to apply for Canada PR?

Canada Immigration Plan 2020 – 2022 states a requirement of 3,51,000 new permanent residents(PR) status holders in the domain by the end of the year 2021.  Thus, if you are planning to immigrate to Canada, then it is the best time, and why not Canada? It is one of the best locations in the world to settle. It has modernized facilities of education, healthcare, and infrastructure and has a very high standard of living. However, if you want to immigrate to Canada, then the best way to do so is with the Permanent Residency(PR) status of Canada.

PR can be applied through the following pathways –

  • Express Entry Program
  • Provincial Nominee Program(PNP)

Let us look at the steps for immigration to Canada through Express Entry. 

Almost all the programs for immigration to Canada are point-based in which the eligibility criterion is determined by meeting the minimum qualifying Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score by the candidate, which is deicide by the IRCC (Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada) and for the Express Entry Program announced through the Express Entry Draws.   

The IRCC announces a draw after every 15 days in which the minimum required CRS score is asked from the applicants, and those candidates who meet the score required they are shortlisted for relocation. They receive the Invitation to Apply (ITA), which needs to be responded in 60 days’ time with documentation.   In the documentation process the credentials are evaluated and assessed.

For undertaking the procedure of immigration, the few steps that can be taken are –

  •   Get your eligibility criteria pre-assessed and calculate your points.
  •   Fill your profile online with the help of the Immigration consultancy service – Through the Express Entry Program / Provincial Nominee program.
  •   Wait for The IRCC (Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada) announced or your chance to meet the Provincial Nomination.
  •   When the ITA (Invitation to Apply) is received, get ready to respond in 60 days time
  •   Complete and submit your documentation – medical record, police verification, proof of funds.
  •   File your  PR application
  •   Keep in touch with the Visa office for further intimation

The evaluation for the Express Entry Program and PNP is done as follows:

  •   Age – Between the range of 18 to 35 years, the applicant can get the highest points.
  •   Language proficiency – it is cross-checked through IELTS and CLB examination for the English language. Scoring high band in the test can help increase the CRS score of the candidate. The language proficiency is tested in either English or French
  •   Education – The degrees and certificates etc. are tested under the ECA. Apart from their authenticity, it is tested that the level of education is at par with the Canadian education board or not
  •   Work Experience – Having good work experience means a high CRS Score for the applicant
  •   Adaptability – having a sibling already settled in Canada can help one to garner good points.
